Some of you may remember a few months ago, I posted about how I thought I saw 2 Audi A6 wagons driving down the freeway. Most of you said it was probably an Allroad Quattro that I misidentified. Well, today I saw one followed by a newly redesigned Q7, so I made a U-turn and attempted to find them. I found both, and took pictures for you guys! It’s a real diesel A6 Avant in Anerica!!! Both the A6 and the Q7 had manufacturer plates and sensors all over, so I’m not sure what they’re doing...

Wait? You can’t get the A6 wagon in the US?

How to get an A6/A7 Avant in the US.

Step 1: Be Volkswagen and slap mani plates on them.
Step 2: Laugh at all the ‘murican blueballs and drink Automatch’s delicious tears from a german mug.
Step 3: When someone asks why you won’t sell them here, tell them in your most german of accents, “Zis is revange for Wuld War Two. Enjoy it, Swineheisers!”

I know on Oppo, I am in the minority on this but...

All the yawns! Even if it wasn’t boring, VW reliability leaves a little too much to be desired.

The Avant is the most common A6 here. Or Americans are weird or we are. I’m suspecting the former.

The only wagon we can get is the Allroad.

Yeah, the Avant is the most common here as well, be it A4 or A6.

If I recall correctly they even discontinued all the Volvo wagons in the US, until last year. That really struck me as odd, selling Volvos but not offering wagons. What’s the point of a Volvo if it isn’t a wagon. Does Volvo even sell non-wagons? To a lesser extent I’d say the same about Audi, although I’d include hatchbacks and coupes.

We all know that people from Northern Europe is a bit strange though.. god forbid we taint the US with that strangeness :P Perhaps that’s why they wouldn’t sell wagons?

The strange thing though, is that the reliability seems to be an issue in the US only. My family have owned several VAG products, never an issue.

No... Don’t you dare mention a RS6 avant.

That’s not entirely true. Well, I can’t say anything about your family, but it’s not a problem restricted to the US. VW group vehicles aren’t exactly class leaders here either when it comes to reliability. Especially since the mk3 and mk4 Golf, although those older TDI engines are just utterly unkillable. It is a far bigger (perceived?) problem in the US though, that is true. It’s merely speculation, but that might have something to do with the Mexican produced VWs the US gets lots of and we get very few of.

I won’t say they are perfect.. Toyota and Lexus got that thing going.. but I’ve never had more trouble with something from VAG than say a Mercedes or a Honda.

TIL audi doesn't sell this car in America....I wouldn't blink twice if I saw one of these. Boring indeed not rwd and not stick why is this better than a golf sportwagon?

Kinja'd!!!0

I haven’t either, but my newest (and only) VW is a mk2 Golf. Those things are the cars that helped built the VW reputation for quality products and reliability, and rightly so. But I would never, ever buy a VAG product from the last 10 years. Except an UP!, maybe.

The UP! is fantastic though, only driven the electric one, but it’s plenty of fun.

I’d buy an RS7 in a heartbeat, but I’m dumb :P I mean, I’d buy a Citroën CX if I found one for the right amount of money.. heck, I’d even buy an Aston Martin Lagonda series II.

I actually own a BX you know. And two 1980s 205s, a GTi and a CTi. But a modern not-small VW scares me more than any of those, especially had my BX not had leaking ancient suspension lines.

A Lagonda though, you’re a braver man then I am.

I know, and I did once own a CX... :P

Right now I’m more scared of my Saab though.. it needs fixing of the rear brakes (Hand brake), needs new shocks at the rear end, and needs new exhaust from the cat and back.. It’ll cost me more than I payed for the car :P

But those are merely wear items; neglected maintenance on an old car. Normal, and you could’ve spotted this before purchase. Not that I spotted the clutch problem with my CTI, but that’s besides the point. The thing with these newer VWs is that I see them as ticking time bombs, and when something does break it’s not cheap to fix. Unlike one of my Peugeots.

True.. I knew about them as well.. but the car was cheap.. 500 euro or so.. And I needed a car :P

What country are you in? It might be be an American thing, or it might be that we have too many much more reliable brands.

Things have changed a lot on that front, though. VW used to make bullet proof cars, and buying American was a matter of patriotism even though they were horribly unreliable.

Or maybe your family just has had that luck with VW. I know there is an Oppo member whose family has had nothing but trouble with Honda, of all brands.

Regardless, luckily for me: They all put me to sleep in the looks department, and I wouldn’t consider one (especially after test driving a couple) until I got ridiculous prices, in which case even the R8 looks too much like a base level Audi which looks too much like a high end VW. Even Toyota can turn out an occassional head turner (LFA / FR-s), but if I was going to drop R8 money on a car, there are a dozen cars starting at half the price I’d prefer. I just don’t get VAG/ Audi at any price point, I guess.

Norwegian here, never had any major problems with any VW/Audi, my BMW’s have been quite good as well, never an issue with any Mercedes.. Toyota? Flawless. Citroën.. well.. it’s Citroën..

The only brand that’s really given me trouble is GM.. Opel and Chevy.. I’ve never owned a Chevy, but me dad did.. never again.. It looked like it was built by a five year old, welds looked like they’d’ve been done by someone with parkinsons :) The engine was HUUGE, but made no power at all.

Should be said though, I do love my Saab 9000, and that’s a GM product.. so yeah :)
